MYA Foods produces organic Cacao from many regions in Peru. We work in the 10 regions growing cacao in Peru from Tumbes and Piura on the coast; Amazonas, San Martín and Ucayali in the Amazon region; and the rainforest areas in Cajamarca, Huánuco, Junín Ayacucho and Cusco.

Cacao is high in anti-oxidants and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. It can also help with heart health and brain health, it can be a mood enhancer help control insulin levels.

MACA

Maca is a member of the same family as cabbage and broccoli, the crucifer family. Maca is native to the high Andes of Peru. MYA Foods produces our Maca in Meseta de Bombón close to Junin Lake in the Andes. Our traditional native growers produce yellow, red, black maca root. MYA works closely with our farmers to produce the best quality Maca in these regions.

Maca is an adaptagen and because of this it has many different benefits. Maca is a hormone balancer and boosts libido. It is also great to help boost energy levels and this is why it is referred to as Peruvian Ginseng.

Gelatinized Maca powder is raw Maca that is heated to remove starch to make it more potent. It is more potent because absorption levels are higher once the starch has been removed or reduced.

QUINOA

Quinoa is a member of the Amaranth family. Chenopodium Quinoa is believed to have been domesticated in the Peruvian Andes. Quinoa is a pseudo-cereal rather than a true cereal. Once harvested Quinoa has to be washed and cleaned to remove a layer of saponins. This removes the bitter taste too. Quinoa is a complete source of protein, and contains all nine essential amino acids. They are naturally gluten-free. Generally, the seeds are cooked the same way as rice or cous-cous and can be used in a wide range of dishes and have similar nutrients to wheat and rice.

MYA Foods is very unique in the sense that we grow with our farmers in 2 regions, Peru and Bolivia. Our Peruvian grown quinoa is Andean and our Bolivian grown Quinoa is Royal Quinoa.

CHIA

Chia Seed or Salva originated in Mexico and dates back to the Aztec and pre Colombian times. There is even evidence of Chia being used as money. Chia is grown in Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Australia and Bolivia.

Chia is high in Omega 3 and 6, fiber and protein. It contains anti-oxidants and amino acids. Chia is so versatile and flexible to use. MYA Foods produce and grow in partnership with our farmers in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Mexico. MYA´s Chia is the highest quality on the market and we produce all year round in the different regions from Mexico to Paraguay.

SACHA INCHI

Sacha Inchi also referred to as the following, sacha peanut, mountain peanut, Inca nut or Inca-peanut. It has been cultivated in the Amazon Rainforest in Peru dating back for centuries. It grows in high altitudes. The fruits have to be left to dry once ripened and upon harvesting as a soft pulp develops and is quite messy to harvest. The Raw seeds are inedible, but roasting after shelling makes them palatable. The seeds of Sacha Inchi have high protein and oil content, and the oil is rich in the essential fatty acids omega-3 linolenic acid and omega-6 linoleic acid as well as non-essential omega-9 (ALA)

GOLDEN BERRY

Physalis Peruviana,

Golden Berry originally from Peru and is also known as Physalis. It is a a plant species and its fruit are most commonly known as Cape gooseberry. It is indigenous to western South America. Native to high-altitude, Peru, where the fruits grow wild, physalis is locally eaten and frequently sold in markets.

Physalis peruviana is closely related to the tomatillo including tomato, eggplant, potato Despite its name, it is not closely related to the cherry, Ribes gooseberry, Indian gooseberry, or Chinese gooseberry. The fruit is a smooth berry, resembling a miniature, spherical, yellow tomato. Removed from its bladder-like calyx, it is about the size of a marble, about 1–2 cm in diameter. Like a tomatillo or tomato, it contains numerous small seeds. It is bright yellow to orange in color, and it is sweet when ripe, with a characteristic, mildly tart flavor, making it ideal for snacks, pies, or jams.[2] It is relished in salads and fruit salads, sometimes combined with avocado. Also, because of the fruit’s decorative appearance, it is popular in restaurants as an exotic garnish for desserts.

LUCUMA

Pouteria lucuma

Lucuma is a fruit that grows on a tree and is a member of the Sapotaceae. MYA Foods work with producers in the Andean Valleys to produce to harvest the fruit from the tree. Lucuma is native to the Andean valleys and grown in Peru. Lucuma is packed with Fibre, Iron and Beta Carotene ( Vitamin A) which can help with eyesight. It can be used a sweetener as an alternative to sugar as it doesn’t spike blood sugar levels. It also contains vitamin B3.

Lucuma can be used in ice cream and other desserts as well as adding the powder to smoothies and juices. The taste has been described similar to maple syrup, butterscotch and sweet potato.

YACON

Smallanthus sonchifolius

Yacón is a sweet tasting tuberous root. It is a close relative of the sunflower and is a species of perennial daisy. MYA Foods work with farmers in the Andes to produce our high quality Yacon. Yacon has a presence of inulin which produces a sweet taste. It is also known in Peru as Peruvian Ground Apple. Yacon contain fructooligosaccharide (FOS), an indigestible polysaccharide made up of fructose. Fructooligosaccharides pass through the human digestive system unmetabolised, they taste sweet and the are very low in calories. The FOS has a prebiotic effect by helping good bacteria around the body in aiding digestion and gut health. Yacon can help reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure. Yacon can be used as an alternative to sugar, it does not spike blood sugar levels but has the sweet taste.

CAMU CAMU

Myrciaria dubia, 

Camu Camu is a small bushy riverside tree with waxy white petals and a sweet smelling aroma. It bears a red/purple cherry like fruit. It is a close relative of the Guavaberry. MYA Foods produce our Camu Camu in the Amazon rainforest in Peru and bears a red/purple cherry-like fruit. We work closely with our producers to ensure we harvest the highest quality Camu Camu in the rainforest.

Camu Camu is packed full of Vitamin C, in fact 50 times more than oranges. It is highly powerful ant-oxidant and can help fight colds and flu’s It helps reduce inflammation, energises the body, supports gum and mouth and plays a role in fighting many different diseases.
